Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

A few days in Puerto Vallarta would be great. This flight is the only direct flight from San Luis Potosi city to beaches and this one just opened over a year ago. Despite the fact that we avoid the tourist complexes, we went there just for the convenience really, it was one hour flight or 7 hours driving, so off we went. The small airport in San Luis Potosi has only four gates and one coffee shop in the waiting area.

We decided to stay in the traditional Puerto Vallarta instead of the modern Nuevo Vallarta. The cobblestone streets and tall houses with three, four and five floors made the impression of a competition among neighbors on a race to build more floors to have a view of the ocean. The red tile roofs make of this town a charming place for expats.

The sound of the church's bell near our bedroom made our stay enjoyable. We were grateful that was the only thing we could hear given the army of tourists who came on cruise ships and visited the famous church. This view from the pool of the hotel was part of the 180 degrees view we had.

A pirate ship came at 9 pm sharp every night full of party goers dancing at the rhythm of loud music and shooting fireworks, by 10 pm they were gone.

The only day we dared to go out of our room, we had to walk among a sea of people, I took a rest and sketch the main square from one of the steps of the city hall.

The bad weather was coming. The rain threatened our perfect days. The storm was imminent.

The next day was partially sunny, I fell in love with the roofs. Among the maze of houses I picked up this one where someone had left some tiles still to be laid on the roof. Behind it, the palm trees dancing with the wind were competing for my attention. All won, I got them all.

A relaxed afternoon like none before awaited for us on the last day of our stay. Bob playing games and I sketching him. He took that bag of Doritos from me. He doesn't like the noise of the crunch breaking our quiet time or perhaps he doesn't like the fact that I could eat the whole bag.

  1. I love your posts Adriana. Poor Bob with such a noisy wife. You caught him perfectly, it's just him. I love the storm clouds and the whole description of the tourist vibe was spot on.

    1. Thanks so much my dear friend. The storm sketch is overworked, I had a hard time working with watercolor paint with the paper of this Zeta S&B sketchbook. I made the mistake to bring only this sketchbook without trying it before. Oh well, the images are fond to my memories anyway.
